At Itasca, we work closely with research and development and it feels very good that we have contributed to three newly published doctoral theses at the Luleå University of Technology! During October-November, both Mikael Svartstjaern, and Jessa Vatcher, defended their theses in rock mechanics. Vi arbetar för närvarande med ett forskningsprojekt för BeFo där vi simulerar spjälkningsbrott med "bonded block modeling" (BBM) i 3DEC. Projektet syftar till att testa och utvärdera BBM-tekniken för att bestämma spjälkningsdjup och utvärdera inverkan av bergmassans egenskaper, tunnelgeometri och spänningsförhållanden. Arbetet pågår under 2017-2018 med slutleverans hösten 2018.

We are currently working on a research project for BeFo, in which we are simulating spalling failure using "bonded block modeling" (BBM) in 3DEC. The project aims to test and evaluate the BBM methodology to determine spalling depth
and evaluate the influence of rock mass properties, tunnel geometry, and stress conditions. The work is conducted during 2017 and 2018 with final delivery in the fall of 2018.
